Pregnancy Massage Barnet
Pregnancy massage is similar in many ways to a normal massage, the main difference being that massage techniques used in pregnancy are adapted to maintain the wellbeing of mother and child. Techniques vary from firmer massages to relieve discomfort, or softer massages to help relax the expectant mother.
The body undergoes some fairly fundamental transformations during pregnancy, including postural changes, an enormous influx of hormones, weight gain, enlarged breasts, increased plasma and blood volume and the shifting of organs. Consequently, the journey can be uncomfortable and all pregnant women can expect some aches and pains.
A growing body of research supports the benefits of regular massage during this time, as a safe, drug-free, relaxing way to minimise and relieve the common discomforts you may be experiencing. It can improve not only your own physical and mental wellbeing but also that of your baby.
There’s been little research done to confirm the benefits of pregnancy massage but it has been growing in popularity over recent years, with women claiming an improvement in their prenatal health.
These improvements include:
-Relief from aching muscles and joint pain
-Reduction in anxiety and stress by increasing “feel-good” hormones
Unfortunately, if you are in your first three months of pregnancy you will NOT be able to book a massage through us. If you are more than thirteen weeks pregnant (2nd trimester), you should still seek advice from a healthcare professional before starting treatment.
People who should NOT choose a Pregnancy massage:
-Still in the 1st trimester
-Have a history of miscarriage or high-risk pregnancy.
-Are prone to blood clots.
-Experiencing cramping or bleeding.
-General contraindications following a C-section.
